NEW COACHES FOR THE 2011 SUMMER SEASON

Topton Swim Team has been increasing our number of competitive swimmers, with more year round swimmers than ever.  With this in mind, we have "stepped up" our coaching staff considerably with older, more experienced coaches. Both coaches will take a competitive swimmer to the next level, or instill a love of swimming into the swimmer who merely wishes to improve their own technique, get or stay in shape and have fun with summer swimming!  We are pleased to announce the arrival of

HEAD COACH : Mr. Adam Kurtz

adam.kurtz@albright.edu

My name is Adam Kurtz and I will be Head Coach for the Topton Torpedoes this summer. I am overjoyed to be taking on this lead role and hope I can spread my knowledge of the sport to you and your children! I am a 2009 Hamburg High School graduate and will be a junior at Albright for the 2011-2012 school year. As a high school swimmer I achieved numerous District 3 medals and attended the PIAA state championship meet my sophomore, junior and senior years. During my senior year I became the first swimming medalist in Hamburg history. I chose to attend Albright College where I furthered my swimming career. I had successful freshmen and sophomore years which culminated this past February at the MAC conference meet. I helped the team win the conference championship! I ended the meet with 3 gold and 4 silver medals and was named Co-Swimmer of the Year.

As Head Coach this summer, I will try my best to help every swimmer strive to be the best swimmer they can be, while still promoting the same thing that helped me fall in love with the sport, fun. I hope I will be able to spread my knowledge to the swimmers and help as many as I can to attend the county championship meet in August. My main focus this summer will be fundamentals, which I was disappointed with last year. Another thing I want to put a lot of stress on this summer is decreasing the number of DQ’s and increasing the number of swimmers that attend offered invitationals. I am looking forward to another very exciting, fun summer and I hope you are too. Please feel free to talk with me about your child’s progress throughout the summer.

ASSISTANT COACH :  Miss Tate Behm

swimmingxchick93@aol.com

My name is Tate Behm and I’ll be your assistant coach this season! I’m so excited to be a part of such a terrific team. I think we can work hard and have a lot of fun! I know we can have a very successful season.

I’ll be a senior year at Brandywine Heights this fall. I have been swimming since I was 6 years old. Over the years, I swam for Hillside, Reading Mini Knights, Antietam, and Exeter High School. I have earned a lot of awards and even got my varsity letter. I have learned so much from swimming and I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve learned. I think, with Coach Adam and I working together, we can really try to make sure everyone has a great season. I have some new ideas about improving techniques with each swimmer to make sure that they understand each stroke. I would also like to focus on starts, turns, and finishes, and minimizing DQ’s at meets and invitationals.

I’m very excited and can’t wait for this season to start. If you have any questions for me feel free to email me atSwimmingxchick93@aol.com. I hope everyone has a great rest of the school year and I can’t wait to see everyone at the first day of practice!
